Ranger Wireless Solutions Acquires MobiLink Assets
Ranger Wireless Solutions, a services development company focused primarily on wireless roaming, announced that it is acquiring MobiLink, a development company owned by a consortium of seven wireless service providers.  Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. (WOW-COM)

One-Rate Plan Helping AT&T Win in Wireless
In an interview with Investor's Business Daily, AT&T Wireless Services CEO Dan Hesse said that the wireless division's success during the last quarter was largely due to the one rate plan. Second-quarter sales in the wireless division grew 11.4 percent to $1.24 billion from the previous year. (WOW-COM)

Leon County, Florida Residents Rally Against 
BellSouth Antenna Site
BellSouth's proposal to construct a 130-foot tower in a 95-acre wooded area in Leon County, Fla., has been met with resistance from nearly 60 residents. Although BellSouth has not yet applied for permission to build the tower, and company representatives say they do not know when an application will be filed, residents have begun an opposition rally, complete with printed signs and an attorney on retainer. Corsair Announces New Wireless Location System
The PhoneTrack(TM) system will use elements of time difference of arrival (TDOA) and angle of arrival (AOA) technologies to locate wireless phones and other devices for commercial applications such as location-sensitive billing, roadside assistance and enhanced information services, as well as E-911 calls. The system is being designed initially for the AMPS and TDMA (IS-136) protocols, with later migration to other digital protocols. (YAHOO)

Consumer Survey
The survey revealed virtual across-the-board declines in overall satisfaction scores for wireless, online, cable, local and long distance services between fall 1997 and spring 1998. The good news is that technology adoption continues to rise and demand for bundled services is growing.  (YAHOO)

Independent Study Gives AirTouch's Digital Network 
High Ratings for Service in San Diego
Emerald Bay, an independent research company, purchased phones from four wireless carriers in San Diego, then drove throughout the area placing nearly 9,000 calls divided equally among the different carriers' systems. Six systems were evaluated: AirTouch's digital and analog networks, GTE's digital and analog networks, and Pacific Bell's and Sprint's digital networks. (YAHOO)

Iridium Launches Two More Satellites
The satellites are replacements for two that malfunctioned while in orbit.  Iridium plans to introduce its wireless phones service in September. (NEWSBYTES) - (YAHOO)

Teleglobe Awarded Iridium PCS Roaming Contract
Iridium LLC will use Teleglobe's GlobePCS(SM) signaling conversion platform to provide its subscribers with seamless roaming to and from North America. Teleglobe launched its GlobePCS roaming service 14 months ago.  (YAHOO)

GPS Firm, Trimble, Realigns Leadership
Dr. Robert Cooper, president of Atlantic Aerospace Electronics Corporation of Greenbelt, Md., becomes chairman of the board of directors.  Company founder Charles R. Ericsson Acquires Edgecom, a Telecommunications 
Consulting Firm
In a deal aimed at supporting the growth of Ericsson Mobile's business consulting services throughout the world, Edgecom will provide new network license holders with comprehensive knowledge and rapid market entry. Edgecom will also serve operators who do not currently use Ericsson equipment and are seeking to develop business opportunities in strategy, organization, processes and systems. (YAHOO)

U S WEST, Union Negotiators to Resume Talks Today
After meeting for four hours on Wednesday, the two sides have agreed to meet again today. The sticking points remain a performance-pay plan, mandatory overtime and health care benefits. (NANDO TIMES NEWS)

Public Use of Mobile Phones Annoy 75 Percent of People, 
Says Survey in Japan's Large Cities
A survey conducted by Japan's Telecommunications Careers Association finds that cellular phone use in public locations has bothered 75 percent of respondents, primarily because the speaker is talking loudly. The 1,300 respondents, ages 16 to 96, were from Tokyo and eight other large cities. (WOW-COM)

Bell Canada International and A.I.G. in Korean PCS Deal
Bell Canada International and the American International Group, a big insurer in New York, joined forces on Tuesday to purchase 39.4 percent of the Hansol PCS Company of South Korea, one of Korea's three wireless phone companies. Bell Canada, which is 75 percent owned by BCE, will acquire a 23.6 percent stake in the Hansol Paper-led company, while AIG will take control of 15.8 percent. Bell Canada and AIG, which used investment funds to purchase the shares, paid $159 million and $106 million, respectively. (KOREA HERALD)
